CMC Events The Spring/Summer series of seminars and lectures at the Contemporary Music Centre continues with a practical talk on the Feldenkrais movement method on 22 April. This follows a stimulating talk which took place on 22 March entitled 'Bring down the Noise Gate' in which composers Jennifer Walshe and Michael Maierhof (Germany), discussed their work processes. The Feldenkrais session will be given by Sabine Volkmann, a flautist and Feldenkrais practioner. She will discuss the theoretical and practical aspects of the method and show how musicians and singers can benefit. The Feldenkrais method uses gentle non-straining movement exercises to raise awareness of limiting patterns of movement and posture, resulting in more ease, efficiency and integration of movement. The method can help with symptoms such as repetitive strain injury, back, neck and shoulder strains, and improves breathing and the quality of music performance. In May, June and July the focus is on composer interviews. The guest on 8 May is composer Seóirse Bodley in conversation with Gareth Cox. Emeritus Professor in the music department of University College Dublin, Bodley is one of the senior figures in Irish composition and celebrated his seventieth birthday during April. Dr Gareth Cox, Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Music in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, has published extensively on Irish music. The June and July composer interviews are with Raymond Deane and Eibhlis Farrell respectively. Further details will be posted nearer the time. All events take place in the CMC library from 6.30pm - 7.30pm and admission is free. Due to limited space places for all events should be booked in advance.
