New Music in Sligo

The Sligo New Music Festival returns on Saturday 29 March 2003 in the Model Arts Centre and Niland Gallery. Under the artistic direction of Sligo-based composer Ian Wilson, the one-day festival will focus on the music of Salvatore Sciarrino and features three concerts by the Italian ensemble Alter Ego. An additional element will be the presence of guest speaker Enzo Restagno, a close associate of Sciarrino and the director of the Italian contemporary music festival, Settembre Musicale. Professor Restagno will give two talks about Sciarrino's work, introducing the music and placing the composer's work in the wider context of developments in European music in recent decades.
