Opportunities in Sligo

Sligo County and Borough Councils have announced a new series of commissions for 2003 and 2004 funded under the Department of Environment and Local Government’s ‘Per Cent for Art’ scheme. The series, which is also open to music commissions, will be curated by artist and film/video maker Joe Lee (read his curatorial statement, Unravelling Developments).

Practitioners are invited to apply for a place on a multi-disciplinary panel of artists to include choreographers, composers and writers. The panel will be in place until the end of 2004 and commissions will be awarded in 2003 and 2004. A two-stage process will operate: Stage 1 will be the appointment of the panel and in Stage 2 approximately ten commissions will be awarded between 2003 and 2004, with budgets ranging from Euro symbol10,000 to Euro symbol22,000 and up to Euro symbol64,000. All artists invited onto the panel will be awarded a commission.

The closing date for applications is 3 October 2003. Further information: Mary McDonagh, Public Art Officer, Arts Office, Sligo County Council, Market Yard, Sligo. Email: mmcdonag@sligococo.ie or tel: 071-914 0986.
