SARC at CMC

The new SARC building at Queen's University, Belfast.
The new SARC building at Queen's University, Belfast.

Our Autumn events programme begins on Monday, 22 September with a talk by composer Michael Alcorn about Belfast’s cutting-edge Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC). Alcorn, the founder and director of SARC, will talk about his plans for the Centre as well as his work as a composer. Established within Queen’s University Belfast as a centre of excellence dedicated to the research of music technology, SARC’s main focus is a Sonic Laboratory -- a purpose-built variable acoustic space which will be used for experiments in sound diffusion as well as ground-breaking compositional and performance work. As a creative facility it can best be thought of as a ‘cinema for the ear’ designed to provide a unique and exciting listening experience, in fact the auditory equivalent of an IMAX cinema.

Other CMC events planned for this autumn include a seminar on ‘New Music and the Media’; and a Presentation Skills practical session.

To book a place for Michael Alcorn's talk, please contact CMC Promotion Manager, Karen Hennessy, email khennessy@cmc.ie or telephone 01-673 1922.
