Irish Success at Rostrum of Composers

Deirdre Gribbin
Deirdre Gribbin

Irish composer Deirdre Gribbin's work Empire States has been chosen as one of nine recommended works from a large international entry to the recent 2003 International Rostrum of Composers in Vienna. Submitted by Lyric FM in association with the Contemporary Music Centre, the work will now receive some 35 broadcasts in member-countries of the European Broadcasting Union.

An RTÉ commission, Empire States was premiered by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland under conductor William Eddins in January 2002. The International Rostrum of Composers which is a project of the International Music Council is a forum of representatives of broadcasting organizations who come together for the purpose of exchanging and broadcasting contemporary music.

Gribbin is the 2003-04 Artistic Director of Britain’s Society for the Promotion of New Music (SPNM) and her work, Venus Blazing (2001), has been nominated for the Royal Philharmonic Prize 2003.
