A feasibility report entitled A National System of Local Music Education Services has been launched by Music Network, the national music development organization. Jointly funded by the Departments of Education and Science, and Arts, Sport and Tourism, the report recommends the establishment of a cost-effective, national network of county-based local music education services. It identifies significant gaps in music provision in Ireland, particularly in respect of children's access to instrumental and vocal music education, and proposes the formation of an Implementation Group to undertake further work on costings, educational criteria and a timeframe for the rollout of new local services.
Copies of the report, which has been widely welcomed by the music community, may be downloaded from the Music Network web site or obtained in hard copy by telephoning +353-1-671 9429.
