Mulvey Commissions

Gráinne Mulvey
Gráinne Mulvey

Carlow-based composer Gráinne Mulvey has been commissioned by The Commissioners of Irish Lights (the General Lighthouse Authority for all of Ireland), to write a piece to commemorate the centenary of the Fastnet Lighthouse for performance in June 2004. The Fastnet Lighthouse, off the coast of south-west Cork, is 100 years old this year. It is probably the best known Irish lighthouse and is one of the most beautiful lighthouse towers in the world.

Mulvey has also been commissioned by Waterford New Music Week to write a piece for two children's choirs and orchestra for performance in January 2004. Her work Longitude has won the chamber orchestra section of the Waterford Newfoundland Partnership Music Composition Competition, and will be performed in Waterford Institute of Technology and in St John's Memorial University, Newfoundland, Canada in the near future under the auspices of the Ireland Newfoundland Partnership.
