‘Mostly Modern’ Series Returns

Benjamin Dwyer
Benjamin Dwyer

The 2003-04 Bank of Ireland ‘Mostly Modern’ lunchtime concert series returns to the Bank of Ireland Arts Centre in central Dublin on 9 October.

The first concert features Irish group VOX21 and guitarist/composer Benjamin Dwyer (also the artistic director of the series) with premieres of works by Dwyer and John McLachlan. McLachlan features again in the next recital, given by leading Irish guitarist John Feeley. Later in the series American pianist Kathleen Boyd performs music by women composers, while New Zealand-born recorder player Peter Wells has selected an all-Japanese programme. Other solo recitals include harpist Clíona Doris, followed by Susan Doyle in a programme of music for flute and electronics.

The series also includes an Open Day (30 October) in which a pre-concert talk by John Buckley (12.00 pm) is followed by a 1.15pm recital by John Feeley and then a series of readings by eminent musicians/composers/journalists. The day finishes with an Open Forum where all are welcome to enjoy a glass of wine and participate in the debate. Mostly Modern will also be presenting the winning works from its two composers' competitions: the Mostly Modern/AIC International Composers Competition and the Mostly Modern/IMRO Young Irish Composers Competition.
