From 13-17 April 2003, the National Concert Hall will present its fourth annual contemporary music series, Composers' Choice. Featuring the work of living Irish composers and sponsored by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) with the support of RTÉ Lyric FM, this series offers each composer the chance to devise a concert comprising their own works programmed alongside works by composers who have influenced them or whose work they admire. The series to date has produced repertoire ranging from Machaut to The Beatles.
For 2003 the six composers will be Gerald Barry, Elaine Agnew, Jürgen Simpson, Judith Ring, Siobhán Cleary and Ian Wilson. Past series have included visits by performers from Finland, Bulgaria, the USA and Scotland. In 2003 musicians from the UK are featured: the London-based Composers Ensemble and the Manchester group Psappha. Pre-concert talks will take place prior to each of the concerts.
