The Balance of Harmony

Brent Parker
Brent Parker

A new play by Tina Fitzpatrick with music by her father, composer Brent Parker, was recently broadcast on RTÉ. The Balance of Harmony, a twenty-five minute radio play directed by Dan Reardon and based on a concept by Brent Parker, is a vivid, zany romp through a science-fiction universe in which a battle takes place between Harmony and Discord.

On Tetra, the Universe of Sound, the young girl, Segway Misura, is chosen to save the Universe from Discord, headed by Tritone, the devil in music. Sparks fly as Ludifrous and his Diatonians take on Tritone and his band of Dodecaphonians. According to Parker the story, based on harmony versus discord, is a parody of the twentieth-century dilemma of where is music headed. The play was broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1 on 9 December 2003.
