Congratulations to John Kinsella whose Cello Concerto (2000) has been performed three times in Mexico this year, following its successful premiere in Dublin's National Concert Hall in March.
The concerto was commissioned by the Mexican Embassy for cellist Carlos Prieto, with funds provided by the Arts Council. The Mexican performances were given by Prieto and the Xalapa Symphony Orchestra with conductor Carlos Miguel in Veracruz, Xalapa and Córdoba, each time to a warm reception from audiences of between 1,000 and 2,000 people. The Córdoba concert, given in the Cathedral, was transmitted live on TV and the same performers have now recorded the work on CD.
