The appointment has been announced of Maura Eaton, former Music Officer of the Arts Council, as Chief Executive of the newly-formed Music Board of Ireland/Bord Ceol na hÉireann, established in May 2001 by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Síle de Valera TD, in partnership with the music industry.
The Board, chaired by Ann O'Connell of PriceWaterhouseCoopers, has been charged in its first year with formulating a strategic plan for the development of the music industry and with providing a focus for and source of expertise on the various aspects of the industry. Initially set up for a period of three-years, the Board will prepare proposals for legislation to establish a statutory body in due course.
