Frank Corcoran wins the EMS Prize 2002
On 9 November 2002 Frank Corcoran was awarded joint first prize at the EMS award ceremony in Fylkingen, Sweden for Quasi Una Missa. Corcoran shares first price with Paul Rudy of the USA and Thema:Omaggio. They will each receive 10,000 swedish kronor. Altogether there were 75 entries from 16 different countries for the EMS prize. The jury also awarded three honourable mentions: Hans Südow of Denmark for Dada3, Chris Mann of the USA for Double Standard and Angel Sturiale of Italy for Voiceless madrigal. The jury consisted of Ulf Stenberg, EMS Director, Erik Peters, composer and Hanna Hartman, sound artist. The EMS Prize is a text-sound competition held annually by EMS-Electro-Acoustic Music Sweden. EMS has been the focus of Swedish electro-acoustic music for more than a quarter of a century. EMS's primary purpose is to facilitate and promote artistic creation of electro-acoustic music and its use in other areas of art. EMS's studios and facilities are available to all professional composers, both Swedish and foreign. In addition to running these studios EMS arranges and supports festivals and concerts, produces CDs, offers courses in electro-acoustic music for professionals and amateurs, and collaborates with Swedish colleges of music and regional music institutions throughout the country.
