This season's programme from the Con Brio music society in Sligo seeks to build on previous successes with an exciting line-up of music and artists of the highest calibre. All artists have been asked to include one work by a living composer, so audiences will have the opportunity to experience chamber music as a living art form. New works are carefully balanced in the programmes with more established classical/romantic pieces, so that they may be heard in their proper context.
Featured Irish composers in the forthcoming season are Stephen Gardner and Ian Wilson. The premiere of Stephen Gardner's new quartet May you live to you die, commissioned for the Vogler Quartet by the Sligo Arts Office/Vogler Quartet in Sligo Residency, will be performed on 18 October. Ian Wilson's pieces Drive and Spilliaert's Beach (violin and piano version), will both be performed on 15 November. Stephen Gardner is featured again on 10 January 2003 with his piece Trane, and other non-Irish composers represented include Tristan Murail. Among the performers will be the Vogler Quartet, French pianist François Frederick Guy, Hugh Tinney (piano) and Catherine Leonard (violin).
