Composer Linda Buckley will curate the September Kaleidoscope
The composer and performer will guest curate the monthly series at the Odessa Club on 7 September 2010. The evening will include her String Quartet No. 1, Latitude Longitude, performed by the Dublin Guitar Quartet and a new work, Net, for ensemble and tape, as well as a works by her sisters, Annette and Irene Buckley.
Linda Buckley writes about the programme:
This Kaleidoscope is all about finding points of contact between musics from the medieval harmonies of Leonin to the modal pared down melodies of John Cage, from Baroque classical and Irish traditional elements colliding and merging in O'Carolan, to Steve Reich's minimal ambiance influencing the electronica of The Orb, through to folk and indie interpretations of Song to the Siren.
This is all music that has influenced my own composing, and also some of the major people who have impacted on my musical development feature, from my sisters Irene and Annette to my first flute teacher (Conor O'Connell) displaying his Baroque recorder talents. I invite you to come and enjoy some of the music which has inspired me over the years.
