Culture Night 2021

For Culture Night 2021, CMC and Kirkos Ensemble, CMC's Ensemble-in-Residence 2020/2021, present a series of live and live-streamed concerts featuring World Premiere performances of new works composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme launched in December 2020, alongside contemporary works by composers from Ireland performed by Kirkos Ensemble. These concerts will be complemented by interviews by CMC’s Evonne Ferguson and Linda O’Shea Farren with performers and featured composers, which will be broadcast online between concerts.

Concert #1 - 5.00pm to 5.10pm approx.

Soprano Elizabeth Hilliard performs the World Premiere of ‘Pomegranate’ by Evangelia Rigaki, which was composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme

Concert #2 - 5.30pm to 5.40pm approx.

Cellist Martin Johnson previews one movement of new suite for cello and live electronics (guitar pedal/amplifier) ‘Three Words for Light’ by Anselm McDonnell, which was composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme

Concert #3 - 6.00pm to 6.10pm approx.

Vocal Quartet PASSIO [Eoghan Desmond, Sarah Keating, Sarah Thursfield and Rory Lynch] performs the World Premieres of ‘Beloved! My Beloved!’ and ‘Is it indeed so?’, new settings by Eoghan Desmond of 2 of 4 Sonnets by Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Concert #4 6.30pm to 6.40pm approx.

Flautist Lina Andonovska performs the World Premiere of ‘How The Soap Miser Grew A Soul’ by Matthew Rowan, which was composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme 

Concert #5 - 7.00pm to 7.15pm approx.

Concert #6 - 7.30pm to 7.40pm approx.

French horn player Hannah Miller performs the World Premieres of the following works by Derek Ball, which were composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme:

• ‘Distancing’, a horn quartet with three recorded parts on tape and one live part
• ‘Marking Out’ for solo horn

Kirkos Ensemble performs How to BUILD a VIOLIN (2020) by Sebastian Adams
 

Concert #9 - 9.00pm to 9.15pm approx.

• French horn player Cormac Ó hAodáin performs the World Premiere of ‘Ditan’ by Daragh Black Hynes, which was composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme
• French horn player Cormac Ó hAodáin and The Delmaine Quartet [Philip Dodd, violin; Ailbhe Doherty, violin; Vanessa Sweeney, viola; and Donal Wallace, cello] perform the World Premiere of horn quintet ‘Resilience' by Norah Constance Walsh, which was composed collaboratively as part of the CMC Colleagues programme

Concert #10 - 9.30pm 

Kirkos Ensemble performs excerpts from Improvisation for Cranes (2021)
