Philip Hammond graduated from Queen's University, Belfast, in 1974 with the degrees of BMus and MA. In 2003, he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Music by Queen's. He is Arts Development Director at the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. As a pianist, critic and broadcaster, he has a wide reputation in Irish musical circles.
