Softday: Marbh Chrios (Dead Zone)

Marbh Chrios (Dead Zone) was created by Softday (Seán Taylor and Mikael Fernström) during a public art residency through the Donegal County Council Public Art Office. It was the culmination of one of the five percent for art commissions within the Lovely Weather project.

The work is a computer-generated music composition, constructed using eight years of related marine data mapping two 'contested' marine Dead Zones in Killybegs Harbour and Donegal Bay. The piece was premiered by the Donegal Youth Orchestra, with conductor Vincent Kennedy and the Softday Ceili Band on 16 October 2010.

A specially designed USB artefact in the shape of a fish containing a video and audio from the performance will be launched in the Contemporary Music Centre's new Platform for Performance space on 9 February 2011.
