The latest release in CMC's ongoing Contemporary Music from Ireland CD series brings together a number of works composed in the last five years. Eleven composers are featured, ranging from established voices at the peek of their careers to emerging composers who are fast gaining a reputation for their innovative work. As always, the CD offers the listener a glimpse of what's current in Irish composition and may well challenge your notion of what 'Irish music' is.

Showcasing Irish and international performers
The music is performed by some of our most exciting soloists and groups, together with leading international musicians: Gerard McChrystal (saxophone) and Mary Dullea (piano), Kate Ellis (cello), the Smith and ConTempo string quartets, the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra and conductor Robert Houlihan, the Schubert and Crash Ensembles, and Vox21, among others. An insightful introductory article by musicologist, pianist and lecturer Bob Gilmore compliments the CD and, together with notes on each of the pieces by the composers, provides a context for each of the works featured.

Funding and support
The CD was made possible by funding from Culture Ireland, the Arts Council of the Republic of Ireland (An Chomhairle Ealaíon), and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland (through its Awards for All scheme). We also sincerely acknowledge the kind co-operation of all the copyright holders in making the recordings featured available to us.

Following its release, the CD will be distributed internationally to radio stations, festivals, concert promoters, performers, libraries, schools and universities.
