The Contemporary Music Centre held a seminar on music and the Internet on Tuesday, 22 May 2007 in the Carolan Room of the National Concert Hall, Dublin.
Organised in response to a large growth and interest in online developments relating to music, the seminar looked at current and future trends in digital music distribution and promotion and examined how these impact on composers and musicians.
Attended by a large audience of composers, musicians, and music professionals, the seminar heard presentations from Scott Cohen, Founder and Vice President International of the Orchard, and Helen Shaw, Managing Director of Athena Media.
A number of case studies dealing with practical ways in which the Internet can be used to promote and distribute music were also outlined by Julie Feeney, Composer and Singer, Gavin Prior, Musician, Producer and Improviser, and by Jonathan Grimes, General Manager of the Contemporary Music Centre.
The Contemporary Music Centre acknowledges the support of the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Arts Council/An Chomhairle Ealaíon in helping to make holding the seminar possible.
